The Quran advises giving Mehr sincerely during marriage. Historical values suggest 500 dirhams. Hazrat Umar (R.A.) aimed to standardize it at 500 dirhams, but a woman reminded him of Quranic flexibility. Meher should not have a fixed, low limit. The Prophet allowed creative options, like teaching the Quran, as mehr. This flexibility should guide society instead of imposing arbitrary standards based on education or occupation due to ignorance.
